Australian Trumpet Sea Shell -

This species of sea shell, (syrinx aruanus), is an example of what is thought to be the largest mollusc in the world and are uncommon. 330mm long and in lovely condition with no cracks. Beautiful orange colour with sweeping spiral lines. It’s guaranteed to look absolutely amazing in any display. They come from the tropical waters off Northern Australia where they would originally have been used to fashion a trumpet or as a water carrier as they can have such a large capacity once cleaned out. The insides would also have been used for food. This one was caught by a local fisherman in Indonesia around 2001. I have two of these in my private shell collection, the other one being larger, so I have decided to let this one go to a new home. It has been well looked after all the time I have had it with no direct sun light exposure.
